♻️ Recycling Week 2026 is here — but recycling is only part of the answer.
From 19–25 October, businesses, schools and communities across Aotearoa will be looking for opportunities to reduce waste and keep valuable resources in use for longer.
Here are 5 things to think about this Recycling Week:
1) Avoid comes first – the best waste is the waste we don’t create.
2) Reuse before replacing – sometimes the simplest solution is already in front of us.
3) Repair where you can – extending the life of products keeps resources in circulation longer.
4) Get your recycling right – better separation means less contamination and a better chance of materials being recovered.
5) Look inside your rubbish bin – for businesses, a simple bin review or waste audit can uncover materials that don’t need to be going to landfill.
This year’s theme, “Identifying Opportunities,” is a good reminder that meaningful change doesn’t always require a complete overhaul. Start with one waste stream, one process or one habit and ask: could we do this better?
At Green Gorilla, landfill is the last resort, not the first port of call. If your business wants to reduce waste, improve recycling or find better recovery pathways, have a chat with our team.
